Out of the Archive:
Fringe Arts Bath 2016

‘Out Of The Archive’ began as an open call to artists across all disciplines to register interest in engaging with an innovative project based on local Georgian period archives held at Bath record office. These were consulted in conjunction with the submissions received to inform the selection process and, at the beginning of April a diverse group of artists were presented with individual archive material. Responding to the material innovatively and within the context of their own practice this has culminated in an eclectic mixed media exhibition integrating fact, fiction, storytelling, imagination and narrative.

In 1752, Lady Luxborough, mentally and physically weary, went to Bath for the cure. She saw the environs of Bath as entirely attractive, spending her time admiring the architectural beauties of the city and hearing sounds and seeing sights of delight.

The series of three fan mounts, alongside the drawings on the window, are made up of intricate and delicate illustrations, ranging in types of drawing material, and are created with Lady Luxborough’s dreamy and utopian view of Bath in mind; where the city is romanticised for its healing qualities and is seen as being completely idyllic.
